HDOnTap

Privacy Policy

Privacy and cookie policy for help.hdontap.com. Last updated October 23, 2026.

This policy explains what personal information the HDOnTap Help Center at help.hdontap.com (the “site”) collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. We wrote it in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, contact us.

The site is run by IP Video Specialists, Inc., doing business as HDOnTap (“HDOnTap,” “we,” “us”), 2120 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Suite #123, Del Mar, CA 92014, United States. We are the “controller” of your personal information under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR and UK GDPR).

This policy covers only help.hdontap.com. Our other sites and apps, such as hdontap.com, sales.hdontap.com, support.hdontap.com and the HDOnTap Portal, have their own notices and cookies.

The short version

  • You do not need an account to use this site, and we do not ask you to fill in forms here.
  • We keep standard web server logs (they include your IP address) to run and protect the site.
  • We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to learn which articles are useful. If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom or Switzerland, these analytics cookies are off until you accept them. Everywhere else they are on by default and you can switch them off at any time.
  • Search runs entirely in your browser. Videos load from YouTube only after you click play.
  • We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising.

What information we collect

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs. When you request a page, our web server records your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the response status, the referring page, and your browser and device type (the “user agent”). We use this to deliver the site, fix errors and detect abuse.
  • Analytics data (only with your consent where required). Google Analytics collects pseudonymous information about how you use the site: pages viewed, time on page, approximate location (city or region level, derived from your IP address), device, browser, operating system, language and how you arrived at the site. Google Analytics 4 does not store individual IP addresses.
  • Your cookie choice. We remember whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we do not ask you again (see cookies).

Information you give us

  • Contact by email or phone. If you email or call us, we receive whatever you send, such as your name, email address, phone number and the details of your question. We use it only to respond and to keep a record of your request. Support tickets are handled on support.hdontap.com, which has its own notice.

Information we do not collect on this site

There are no user accounts, comments, newsletter sign-ups or payment forms on this site. The knowledge base search runs in your browser using a static index, so your search terms are not sent to a search service. The fonts are hosted by us, not by Google Fonts.

The tools on this site

  • Speed Test. Your browser connects to Cloudflare’s public speed test servers (speed.cloudflare.com) to measure its connection. We do not receive or store the results.
  • IP Address Finder. Shows you your own public IP address. It first asks our own domain, which is served through Cloudflare. If that is not available, it asks a lookup service (api64.ipify.org), which then sees your IP address. We do not store it.
  • Player Sizing. Runs entirely in your browser.

Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file saved by your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage, work in much the same way.

Name Set by Purpose Lifetime Needs consent?
hd-consent (browser local storage) HDOnTap Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies Until you clear your browser data No, strictly necessary
_ga Google Analytics Tells returning visitors apart Up to two years Yes (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
_ga_<container ID> Google Analytics Keeps session state Up to two years Yes (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
Cloudflare security cookies, for example __cf_bm Cloudflare Bot protection, only if enabled on our account About 30 minutes No, strictly necessary
Cookies from YouTube Google / YouTube Play embedded videos, only after you click a video’s play button Set by YouTube Loaded only after you click play

Google Tag Manager is the tool that loads Google Analytics on our site. It does not set cookies of its own.

If you visit from the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Until you accept, Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager are not loaded at all. We send the Google Consent Mode v2 settings analytics_storage, ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization as “denied” by default for these visitors. If you accept, only analytics_storage is changed to “granted”. We do not use advertising features, so the three advertising settings stay “denied”.

The banner is shown based on your approximate location, which our network provider (Cloudflare) works out from your IP address as your page loads. If that is not available, we use your browser’s time zone as a rough guide. This means the banner can occasionally appear for a visitor outside these regions, or not appear for someone inside them who has set an unusual time zone.

For visitors elsewhere, analytics is on by default and you can opt out at any time (see below).

Changing your mind

You can change your choice at any time:

  • Select Cookie preferences in the footer of any page, then choose Accept or Decline. Declining removes the Google Analytics cookies we can reach and stops further collection.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
  • Install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

How we use personal information

  • To deliver the site and keep it secure, stable and free of abuse (server logs).
  • To understand which help articles and tools are used, so we can improve them (analytics).
  • To answer you when you contact us.
  • To meet legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

We do not use your information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.

If GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, we rely on these legal bases:

  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for Google Analytics cookies and the collection that goes with them. You can withdraw consent at any time, as described above. Withdrawing does not affect anything we did before.
  • Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for server logs, security, keeping the site running and replying to your messages. Our interest is running a secure, reliable help site for customers and viewers. We keep what we collect to the minimum needed.
  • Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the site, and with authorities when the law requires it.

  • Google LLC (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager) receives the analytics data described above, when enabled. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
  • Google LLC / YouTube receives your IP address and device information if you click play on an embedded video. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and nothing is loaded from YouTube before you click.
  • Cloudflare, Inc. provides our content delivery network and security services, so it processes requests (including IP addresses) on our behalf. It also provides the speed test servers described above.
  • Our hosting provider stores the web server logs on our behalf.
  • Professional advisers, regulators and law enforcement, where we are legally required or need to protect our rights.

International transfers

HDOnTap is based in the United States, and our service providers process data in the United States and other countries. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, this means your information is transferred outside your country. Where the law requires, we rely on safeguards such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework (with its UK Extension and the Swiss–U.S. framework) for providers that are certified, and otherwise on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards by contacting us.

How long we keep information

  • Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or overwritten automatically.
  • Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account, which is never longer than 14 months. The _ga cookies expire after at most two years, but are refreshed while you keep visiting.
  • Your cookie choice stays in your browser until you clear it.
  • Emails and call notes are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request and our business records, then deleted.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you (access);
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong (rectification);
  • ask us to delete your information (erasure);
  • ask us to restrict how we use it;
  • receive it in a portable format;
  • object to uses based on our legitimate interests;
  • withdraw your consent at any time; and
  • complain to your data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner’s Office. A list of EU authorities is on the European Data Protection Board website.

If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, you have the right to:

  • know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and request a copy;
  • request deletion of your personal information;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information; and
  • not be treated differently for using these rights.

In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories from visitors to this site: identifiers (IP address and cookie identifiers), internet or network activity (pages viewed, referring page, browser and device details) and approximate geolocation. We collect them directly from your browser to run the site and, with your consent where required, to measure how it is used. We share them only with the service providers listed above, for the purposes listed above.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information on this site, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing the personal information of anyone under 16. We do not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals, because there is no common standard for them. You can switch analytics off with Cookie preferences in the footer.

How to use your rights

Email [email protected] or call 858.481.4096. We may need to confirm your identity first, and because logs and analytics data are not linked to your name, we may ask you for details such as your IP address and the dates you visited. We reply within one month (45 days for California requests, which we can extend once). You can ask an authorized agent to make a request for you. There is no charge unless a request is clearly excessive.

Children

This site is meant for HDOnTap customers and viewers, not for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use HTTPS on the whole site, keep the site as simple static pages with no user accounts or database and limit who can access the servers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Our pages link to other sites, including the HDOnTap Portal and support site and third-party services such as YouTube. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their notices.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we will say so on this page.
